Vélo Type

what: typography
when: 2025

I created this typeface—Vélo, using Glyphs 3, carefully crafting 137 unique glyphs from scratch. It started as a personal project, but quickly turned into a tribute to one of the most universal and timeless sports: cycling. Across cultures, continents, and generations, the bicycle has remained a symbol of freedom, movement, and simplicity—and I wanted this typeface to reflect that.

Vélo is inspired by the subtle, flowing lines found in bike frames, spokes, handlebars, and even the curves of a winding trail. I studied both vintage and modern bicycles to pull visual cues from their design—capturing that sense of motion, balance, and agility that cycling embodies. Whether it’s a sleek racing bike or an old city cruiser, there’s something inherently graceful about how bicycles move—and I tried to translate that into letterforms.
